FAQ

Horizontal or vertical slats on a balcony wall?
It depends what you have too much of. Vertical slats stretch a wall upward and suit balconies with low ceilings; horizontal ones, as here, widen a short panel and calm a wall you stare at from the seat. On a long narrow balcony, horizontal usually sits better because it follows the shape of the space.
Where should the LED strip go on a slatted wall?
The usual trick is to leave one slat out and drop an aluminium channel into that gap, so you see the line of light and never the diode itself. The natural height is just above the seat back: it grazes the timber and leaves the face of whoever is sitting there in shadow, which is what creates the mood.
What seating actually fits on a very narrow balcony?
A bench against the short wall with just enough depth to sit comfortably, plus a pouf that moves. Conventional outdoor sofas are too deep and leave you nothing to walk through. For occasional extra seating a round pouf beats a chair — there are no corners to catch as you squeeze past.
