How to get this look at home

FAQ

How high should bedside pendants hang?
The useful reference is your eye level sitting up against the headboard — the bottom of the shade should land roughly there. Higher and the light goes to the wall; lower and you catch it every time you make the bed. Mark the position with tape and live with it for a night before drilling anything.
What size rug goes under a bed?
One that extends past both sides and the foot, so you land on rug whichever of the three sides you get out. It doesn't need to reach the headboard: sliding it under the bottom third of the bed gives the same result for considerably less rug.
How do you stop a wood-heavy bedroom feeling dark?
Introduce one large pale plane rather than several small ones. Here the undyed rug and the white bedding do it, and together they cover more visual area than the slatted wall. Adding light cushions or artwork won't cut it — the pale mass has to be big enough to hold its own against the timber.
