The pool takes up only a few metres, but at dusk it's the only thing you look at. The reason is the lining: a very dark green mosaic that gives back reflections instead of showing the floor, so the water reads far deeper than it is. Four wall-mounted spots graze it lengthways and draw the movement of the surface. Around it, dark decking, a pale stone coping, and at either side two bird-of-paradise plants uplit against the relief stone wall.

Glass mosaic in small tesserae and a bottle green tone, sold on 30x30 mesh sheets. Check the listing explicitly says pool-rated — decorative bathroom mosaic won't take chlorine or water pressure. Buy it all from one batch and allow 10 % extra: glass shifts tone between firings and a single odd sheet shows underwater.
See similar on Amazon(paid link)A low-voltage LED projector with a stainless steel or PVC body, for recessing into the niche in the pool wall. It must run at 12 V and not off mains: that's the basic safety condition for any submerged fitting. Prefer fixed warm white over RGB — colour changing gets used twice, and cool white shows up every particle in suspension.
See similar on Amazon(paid link)An air-to-water heat pump sized by cubic metres, not by surface area. For a pool this size a small unit is enough, and that's the advantage: what's hard to justify on a large pool here adds several months to the season. Check the noise figure on the listing, because it ends up next to the seating area.
See similar on Amazon(paid link)A bubble blanket that floats on the water and stops overnight evaporation, which is where most of the heat goes. It's the cheapest thing you can buy for a heated pool and the one that shows most on the bill. Cut it to the exact shape with scissors, and lay it bubbles down — the other way up it doesn't heat and degrades in the sun.
See similar on Amazon(paid link)A low table with a built-in gas burner and a bed of lava rock, in pale concrete or mineral composite. Unlike a wood fire bowl it gives no smoke or sparks, which matters a metre from water and decking. Plan where the cylinder goes: most models house it inside the table, and check the access hatch stays reachable.
